I Refuse to Make my Kids Ashamed of Their Bodies so We’re a Naked Household!

I think the title says it all!

I Refuse to Make my Kids Ashamed of their Bodies So We’re a Naked Household

Other times, he would pounce in ready to tell me about the random thoughts that were racing through his big toddler mind.

I was always naked and both of us were comfortable with this.

In fact, all these years later we are still comfortable with our nudity.

Our whole family seems to be comfortable with nudity.

We change in front of each other, often share a stall in the family change room at the pool and shower with the bathroom door open.

When was nudity ever legal in America?

When was Nudity ever legal in America?

I found the above link in my twitter feed.   Here’s a snippet:

It was legal from 1926 to 1962.

Many naysayers are going to be upset at you for opening this can of worms. But if you insist, I will give you a true history lesson.

In 1926, the American Public Health Association created a policy that men should swim nude and women should swim in swimsuits in high schools, and public pools and lakes. The reason is because the swimsuits for males at that time apparently caused health problems and it kept pool filters clean if people swam nude. In the 1930s girls held a protest that it was unfair for girls to have to wear swimsuits while boys swam nude. In 1937 the Administration of Health and Physical Recreation and the American Public Health Association stated that “in a few schools girls may swim nude and this is most sanitary”. Thus began public nudity legalization at public schools, and swimming areas.

An interesting story.

Friday Footnote: Bare and GLBTQ Potpourri

i liked this and i decided to reblog it

ReNude Pride

There are many blogs that I regularly follow. Some are strictly bare-related and others are are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) oriented. Believe it or not, there are even a few that are very similar to ReNude Pride and regularly focus on the same gender loving (gay) and bare communities simultaneously. Often, these excellent publications offer posts that are directly related to articles that have recently posted here. The purpose of this Friday Footnote feature here is to offer everyone reading here the opportunity to read the perspectives of others.

Welcome to the naked city: sun, swingers and very little shoplifting

Modernism and naturism meld at the world’s biggest nude town, Cap d’Agde in France, which swells to 40,000 people in summer. Could there ever be a naked metropolis? Phil Hoad exposes himself to nude urbanism.

Welcome to the naked city: sun, swingers and very little shoplifting

1063

We were born naked, but no one shows you the way back. I’ve just paid my €8 and walked through the pedestrian gate at Cap d’Agde’s world-famous naturist resort in the south of France. What now? A stark forecourt stretches out imposingly ahead. Is there somewhere to change, I ask the guard on the gate, as a group of baseball-capped lads stride blithely through. He nods at a set of lockers. But hauling down my kecks right here at the entrance feels wrong. Only one thing for it: do as naturists do, and make for nature. Several minutes and half a bottle of sun lotion later, I’m huddled tentatively in my birthday suit on a Mediterranean beach, one halloumi-hued Englishman in a griddle-pan of sizzling brown cheeks.

The entry procedure is a bit unforgiving, but beyond is something unique: a fully functioning town with largely naked citizenry, which grows to 40,000 in the summer. Only a day later, I’m happily part of a nude queue in the deli lining up for tabouli and octopus salad, while a hardbodied gay couple pore over a side of beef. Since the 1990s, Cap d’Agde has gained a lurid reputation as a meat market par excellence. Europe’s libertines and swingers flock here to participate in what Michel Houellebecq envisioned in his book Atomised as the perfect “sexual social democracy”. But every facet of ordinary city life is here, too: a bank, a post office, several supermarkets, concrete arcades lined with hairdressers, fishmongers, opticians and clothes boutiques. Throughout, fully dressed staff (a formality that apparently developed of its own accord) cater, with surreal nonchalance, to the great unclothed.

Nothing on this scale exists anywhere else in the world. Most naturist resorts are arcadian retreats from city life. Last year, Munich created six urban naked zones, but they were in secluded parkland. In 2012, the supposedly skin-friendly San Francisco chose to outlaw public nudity, except in specially sanctioned public events.

Well I know where I will be moving to when I retire.

Tinea Versicolor

Well for the past few years i have been concerned with what looked like a weird discoloration around my groin area.

For those of you who have seen some of my pictures from earlier in this blog’s history you probably noticed the discoloration as well.  At first I thought the discoloration was due to my shaving my pubic region.  That is true but only in part.  The main reason for the discoloration is a skin condition called Tinea Versicolor.  The condition is caused when the natural fungus on a human’s skin begins to spread out of control basically.  I have included a Wikipedia link in this post so you can look at it or Google it.

To be honest i was basically being a male idiot and never went to the doctor out of a mixture of shame and just thinking it was nothing serious.  But the stuff has pretty much spread around my entire groin area from back to front.  Thankfully it never itched, but it just looked terrible to me and i was afraid anyone seeing it would be grossed out.

What finally got me to take it seriously was when i noticed it was spreading to my hips this year.  I was kind of scared at that point.  But i did have some hope.  I have a cousin who is a dermatologist, so I asked him about and he gave me his diagnosis and said i would be fine, although he was surprised when i told him it didn’t really itch at all.  He said it usually does.  So he sent me a text later with prescription for a creme that I should get to help deal with it.  The creme is called Ketoconazole and it can take a couple of months for it to clear up the condition.

Well there has been something I have noticed in the past few days.  The path and spread of the infection runs along the area where I have shaved frequently.  Noting this i realized that shaving helped to either spread the infection or helped to start it.  I don’t have any real medical evidence but the way the stuff has spread backs up my theory because i remember how i shave my genital area.  My best guess is I irritated my skin or cause small nicks and cuts and that how the stuff spread as the razor also picks up some skin whenever i shave.  I have also noticed that the areas where i sweat the most are also infected.  Thankfully Tinea Versicolor is not a contractible condition.  In others words you CANNOT spread this condition to anyone else via physical or sexual contact.

I decided to post this story on this blog and the other one, because i have noticed some pictures of naturists with the same discoloration, so i decided to post this and the pictures to help others in the naturist community out.  So yeah spread the word and if you know someone who looks like some of the pictures then you can at least help them as well.

Note:  These pictures feel really embarrassing so please don’t spread the pictures around too much.

Who Cares About Your Genitals

IPRM

Preface

I wrote this essay as part of a first year writing course I took this fall with Dr. Andrew Joseph Pegoda. To put this into context, I am a senior (5th year) undergraduate mathematics major taking this particular English core requirement for the third time. The original assignment was to define a mores or ritual in American culture. In freaking out I decided to write in a style that I was more familiar with. With that in mind, here is the result.

Who Cares About Your Genitals?

In 2003, Stephen Peter Gough began hiking naked through the United Kingdom “earning the nickname ‘the naked rambler’.” His more than thirty subsequent arrests resulted in “almost seven years in prison” (Gough 6 and 160). Given the potential consequences of public nudity, we can see how strongly western culture values the ritual of clothing oneself. Thus, we define socially mandated…
