Naturism and Topfreedom: How Naturist Men Can Help (and Hurt)

DC Volleyball 1 FC Sand Volleyball Courts, Peter’s Point, Rock Creek Park and Potomac Parkway, Washington D.C. May 2016. One of the more common “criticisms” of my walks through urban places is that I shouldn’t walk bare-chested where men don’t appear bare-chested. Aside from the obvious fallacies in that argument, I offer this photograph, taken less than a mile from my M Street walk, right in the heart of the city. Male bare-chestedness has become so normalized we don’t really see it anymore.

Right up front, the effects of the naturist male voice in the topfreedom conversation is a delicate subject for me.

Delicate because I personally appreciate the backing of naturists who support topfreedom for authentic reasons, (body positivity, gender equality, etc,) but I also hear a chord of inauthenticity from some who identify as male naturists.

I haven’t done the exact figuring, but I would guess that a majority percentage of my…

All-female cast perform NUDE version of Shakespeare’s Tempest in Central Park

All-female cast perform NUDE version of Shakespeare’s Tempest in Central Park

  • Members of Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society put on production of Shakespeare’s Tempest
  • Play was designed to highlight the restrictions that society places on people’s bodies, according to the group
  • All-female cast performed show over two day on Summit Rock in Central Park as part of the outdoor theater season
  • Toplessness is legal everywhere in New York, and while full nudity is usually banned, it is allowed in the name of art

I can no longer stand with you.

I am here to say today that I can no longer stand with the Topless Movement.  Not that I ever did before mind you.  Now why do i not stand with the Topless Movement, or better yet in some ways, stand against it.  Because the Topless Movement is not about Naturism or freedom.  Its just another arm of the octopus that is Third Wave Feminism.  Another tentacle trying to worm its way into another area of society, by claiming that they have the same ideal and agenda as we Naturists do.  I will tell you right now that they do not have our best interests at heart and neither do they share any ideals or agenda with us.

If you read any of the Topless Movement (TM) Blogs, you’ll find a similar theme in every post.  They speak of bras and shirts as oppression from a male dominated society, or by being topless you are fighting against the patriarchy.  That is not what Naturism is about.  In other words the Topless Movement is just another crazy, radical feminist idea.  Bras are oppression!  Shirts and blouses are evil!  It’s all bullshit!  The rules and laws about women keeping their breasts covered is something that society as a whole agreed upon.  And yes that society includes women.  Women agreed that keeping their breasts covered in public was a good thing.  Because no societal change happens unless the women of said society also agree with it.  For those of you who have been married long enough or have been exposed to marriages you know this to be true.  IF MAMA AIN’T HAPPY, THEN AIN’T NOBODY HAPPY!

So when you hear some woman from the Topless Movement say she stands in solidarity with Naturists, be careful in believing her.  If you want to know if she truly stands with us ask if she has been to a naturist resort, ask her if she’s nude at home.  Ask her if she thinks public nudity for all genders is okay.  You may find she doesn’t agree with public nudity.

To put things into perspective, what if men decided to start a Bottomless Movement?  Would all you ladies think it would be okay if men walked around with no pants or underwear on?  Beautiful erections swinging in the breeze.  A few droplets of urine flying free on occasion.  Nah, you wouldn’t be down with that.  Especially the radical feminists who would be triggered every time a erect white male walked or strutted by.  The screams of rape and being triggered would be so loud even God would hear them.  If my penis flapping around in public view oppresses you, then your breasts in public view oppress me.

To put it simply the Topless Movement is just one more form of feminist rebellion.  And its trying to find support from the Naturists to shoulder up its ridiculous cause.  I’m not biting and neither should you.  We don’t need their support, and they shouldn’t need ours.  If their cause is true and good then it will eventually win the day.  The same goes for us.

Oh my God! Ta-tas!!

Equinox Breastfeeding Ad causes Stir

I found this article and the picture to be hilarious!  I mean c’mon folks its not like she’s doing the same thing Kathy Gifford did or something in that vein.  Plus its a advertisement for a gym.  But i thought it was funny.  I’d want to go to that gym.  How come we don’t have nudist gyms popping up around the country?

You know i just had a idea.  Yes…yes naturist/nudist gyms popping all around the nation!  We can have naturist gyms, and there you will exercise in the nude as a basic rule!  Then the 20-something hipsters will join the gym thinking its the new hip thing to do!  And then we’ll traumatize them when they get to see all those old, wrinkled bodies!!

MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!  Imagine their shocked faces when they have to look 30 years into the future and see what hard work, children, and gravity does to the body!  Oh yes we shall give their spoiled little butts nightmares for years to come!  Oh and we’ll get healthy too.  Can’t forget getting healthy.

So help me come up with a name for this nude gym franchise.  I’m thinking “Fit to Naked” or maybe “Natureal Fit”.

Welp time for me to piss some folks off!

Yes its the new year and I have decided that my first post will be to anger someone about something.  So apparently Don Lemon made the comment to Cathy Gifford about her having a ‘nice rack’ during the New Year’s Eve.  Now what they forgot to mention in a number of articles lambasting Lemon for making a inappropriate comment is the fact that Gifford did this:

Well ‘oops’ I guess Kathy forgot her clothes somewhere.  I guess she also forgot she was in front of numerous children when she did what she did.  I guess she forgot she was on national television when she did what she did.  Look when Anderson Cooper, who is gay by the way, suggests you put your clothes back on then maybe you should listen.

Look I’m all for the topless movement and I don’t mind looking at a pair of breasts sans bra or in a bra.  But come on, i know CNN has shitty ratings but are we stooping that low now?  And Don Lemon’s comment.  While even i may kind of find it inappropriate, what else could he say.  I think she was fishing for comments and ratings and got both.  Besides she obviously put said rack out there for comment.  And guess what Gifford has not made one statement saying she was offended by Lemon’s comment.  So then who is doing all the complaining?

Yep you guessed it, the third wave feminist crowd.  So in the end i think we all know what the deal is with this so called controversy!

Breasts, race and diversity

Epic Insta Anthony teaching me to drum, DuPont Circle, Washington D.C., Summer 2015

I walk bare-chested because it makes me feel free, happy and empowered.

I want people to see this in my demeanor so they associate bare breasts with health and contentment.

I’ve been having a fascinating, on-going conversation with a multiracial social group about race and language.  It has me thinking a lot about race and breasts.  Equality, after all, means equality.  All forms.  All fronts.

Thinking back, I have had a far stronger positive response from people of color than from white people.  A Pakistani couple in D.C. once stopped me to take pictures and ask questions.  They were very nice and highly intelligent.  They voiced strong support and we had a fascinating conversation about freedom.

African-American men have universally been polite, respectful and supportive.  They have also expressed a lot of curiosity about how I have been treated both…
